On the 3rd March, the advisory (and the Year 12 advisory) went to SAE in South Melbourne to learn about what the University offers in terms of our interests.
SAE is a University College, focusing on digital media. Areas like film, game development, and design. The reason it is called SAE is due to the original name being “School of Audio Engineering”, however, it expanded into more avenues as more of the skills in digital media was in demand.

The Activities
Creating a Game
The first session I did was a session about game development, I decided to take some creative liberty to create something that wasn’t too serious, however, introduced some new features to the original preset. The preset was a 2D platformer, where you had to find and reach a blue spaceship. I added on to this idea and created a fake version, that ridicules the player when they try and use the fake one.
You can download the game below.

Operating the Dolly (with a camera attached)
In the second session, I was operating the cameras for a period of time. The camera was attached to a dolly, which is a cart on wheels that is used in filmmaking for smooth camera shots. I quite liked operating this, as it gave me more ability to move the camera around, and to also keep the scenes looking smooth to the eye.
We were filming scenes on an actual film set, which had props, lighting, and proper camera equipment. It had good sound isolation from the outside, and kept us focused with little distractions. Our mentor on set was James, who is apart of the film crew at SAE. He taught us certain film terminology, that is used in actual film circumstances.
